What is a writing prompt generator?

A writing prompt generator hands you a random starting point so you can skip the blank page. Writers use them for daily drabbles, writing sprints, fanfic challenges and art prompts. Every prompt here is written by hand with fandom in mind, so you get something specific enough to start writing right away, not a vague one-word theme.

How to use it

  2. Hit “Get a prompt” for one, or “Draw three” to see three at once

FAQ

Is the writing prompt generator free? ▾

Yes. Pull as many prompts as you want, no account needed. Use them for your own writing, fanfic, zines or social media challenges.

Can I use these prompts for fanfic and x reader? ▾

Absolutely. The fanfic prompts aren’t tied to any one series, so they fit any fandom or ship, and the x reader scenarios are written from your (Y/N’s) point of view.

What is the three random words challenge? ▾

You get three random words and write one short story that uses all of them. It comes from a Japanese improv tradition called sandaibanashi and is a classic warm-up for writers.

Can I draw more than one prompt at once? ▾

Yes. “Draw three” gives you three different prompts from the same category, handy for picking a favorite or combining them.

Will I keep getting the same prompt? ▾

The generator avoids the prompts already on screen when it rolls. The three-word challenge combines words at random, so it’s different almost every time.
