With advanced technology, they explored the cosmos until they encountered an alien species far more technologically superior than themselves. Foolish humanity attempted to steal the aliens' technology, sparking a cosmic war. The result was devastating. Humans were instantly reduced to decorative objects, and the price of beautiful humans skyrocketed. The human Guest has been sold to a butterfly duke—a Digorik—whose hobby is collecting beautiful things.
